Silicon: supplement for healthy hair
A full head of hair with extra volume, isn't that everyone's dream? Unfortunately, for some, it remains just a dream. It can be quite frustrating when your hair doesn't do what you want. We totally get that! Luckily, healthy hair full of volume is never far away, not even for you. With SiWell's supplements, you give your hair zinc and selenium from within, two minerals that contribute to the maintenance of normal hair. You can read more about why hair supplements help with this and how it works here.
Thinning hair and hair loss
Everyone loses 50 to 100 hairs daily, and that's normal. If you notice your part widening, more hair remaining in your brush, or baby hairs appearing at your hairline, it's worth investigating the cause. The most common causes are hormonal changes, prolonged stress, nutritional deficiencies, heredity, hair breakage due to care, and sometimes an underlying condition or medication.
Which cause applies to you determines what helps. If there's a deficiency, something can be supplemented. Not so with hereditary hair loss. And for sudden or patchy hair loss, your first step should be a blood test at the GP, not a supplement.

Why choose hair supplements?
What does silicon have to do with hair? Your hair consists of proteins like keratin, and collagen plays a role in the firmness of the skin and surrounding connective tissue. Silicon naturally occurs in these tissues.
To be fair, there is no EU-approved health claim for silicon itself. However, there is an approved role for the other two minerals in the drops. Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal hair, and selenium contributes to the maintenance of normal hair. You normally get these through your diet; a supplement is intended as a complement.

Frequently asked questions
How much hair loss is normal?
An average of 50 to 100 hairs per day. If you notice significantly more hair loss, or if your part is widening, it's worth investigating the cause.
Do supplements help with hair loss?
Only if there is a deficiency. If your diet is in order, there's little to supplement. Zinc and selenium contribute to the maintenance of normal hair; that is different from a remedy for hair loss, and that is how you should read it.
Does silicon work against hair loss?
There is no approved health claim for that. The EFSA assessed the evidence as insufficient in 2011. Silicon occurs naturally in your connective tissue, skin, hair, and nails, and honestly, that's all we can say about it.
When do I go to the GP?
In case of sudden or patchy hair loss, hair loss accompanied by fatigue, weight changes or an irregular cycle, or if it does not improve after six months. A blood test rules out iron deficiency and a thyroid condition.
What can I do myself for healthy hair?
To make your hair healthier, protein-rich foods are important. Think nuts, seeds, fish, and eggs. But green leafy vegetables also ensure strong hair fibers and make your hair less brittle.
May I use SiWell during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Yes, you may! We still advise you to always consult with your midwife, general practitioner, or pharmacist before you start. See also our page about SiWell during pregnancy.
